From Insight to Action: Building a Clear Strategy for Sustainable Growth
Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance | Charity Sector

The Situation:
With the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (DSAA) office based in Somerset, the charity had strong goodwill and community support in the BCP area — but converting that into consistent, long-term partnerships was proving difficult.
Like many charities, they faced a common challenge:
- Strong awareness, but inconsistent engagement
- Limited clarity on which organisations to prioritise
- Activity that wasn’t always aligned to the highest-value opportunities
There was a clear opportunity — but it needed structure, insight, and focus to unlock it.

The Approach:
I undertook a structured, research-led review to build a clearer picture of:
- Which organisations were most likely to engage
- What types of activity would resonate most effectively
- Where effort would generate the strongest return
This included:
- Market and stakeholder analysis
- Identification of high-potential partnership segments
- Evaluation of current positioning and engagement approach
From this, I developed a clear, practical strategic plan that:
- Prioritised the most valuable opportunities
- Aligned activity to audience needs and motivations
- Created a roadmap for consistent, scalable engagement
The focus was simple: turn insight into action.

The Results:
The outcome was immediate clarity and direction:
- Clear strategic focus on the organisations most likely to engage
- More targeted and effective activity, aligned to what resonates
- Stronger positioning and credibility within the business community
Most importantly, the charity now has:
- A structured, evidence-based approach to partnership development
- A clear pathway to convert goodwill into long-term relationships

The Impact:
With a clear strategy in place, DSAA is now:
- Better positioned to build deeper engagement
- Able to focus effort where it delivers the greatest return
- Set up to achieve its long-term fundraising ambitions
This assignment led directly to winning chosen charity status with both AFC Bournemouth and MoreBus, providing an opportunity to increase awareness, educate the BCP population and ultimately drive fundraising commitment across the region.
Client Feedback:
"On behalf of our whole team, thank you for unlocking this exciting opportunity to engage more deeply with the community we serve"

What This Demonstrates
Even in organisations with a strong reputation and goodwill:
- Opportunity is often hidden in plain sight
- Effort is diluted without clear prioritisation
- Growth requires clarity, focus, and evidence-based decisions
A well-structured strategy doesn’t just inform — it unlocks momentum.
Note: In addition to my management consulting, I'm also a volunteer fundraiser for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
